Chapter 8

Project

*You and a partner (optional) will be creating a scale drawing of a room. This room could be from your house (bedroom, kitchen, living room) or from school (classroom).

*Start by measuring the dimensions of the room.

*Choose the scale for your drawing that is appropriate.  Decide what one foot in your room will be in inches on your drawing.  A scale of 1/4 inch equals 6 inches is a common choice, but you may choose any  scale you wish.  Plan out your drawing with the scale and be sure it will fit on one piece of graph paper (which I will provide.)  No part of the drawing may hang over the edges of the paper.

*Include all furniture objects, rugs or anything that sits on the floor in your drawing.  A minimum of 5 items must be shown in the room.  These should also be drawn to scale.  Each item must be drawn using a straight edge.

*Include the scale on your drawing-- 1 ft. = ____cm.

*Fill in a chart in which you show the original lengths and widths of each object, and then the scale length and width of the same object.

*Your drawing should be EXTREMELY neat, and should be colored with  colored pencils or markers that reflect the actual colors of the room and the objects.

*Include a title on your drawing.

*Grading will be based on the accuracy of the scale drawing compared to the actual room.  The chart must contain correct information in both the actual and the scale columns.  Neatness will be a major part of the grade.

*Extra points will be given if a photograph(s) of the actual room is included.
